1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork (plain, not seasoned)
1 28 oz can whole tomatoes

1 12 oz can tomato paste
2 t garlic salt
1 1/2 t dried oregano
1 t dried basil
2 C cottage cheese
1 C grated parmesan cheese
12 oz shredded mozzarella cheese (don't use the kind that's already shredded)
12 oz lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
Cook and stir meats in a large skillet until brown. Drain fat. Add tomatoes, break up with fork. Stir in tomato paste, garlic salt, oregano, and basil. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat, simmer uncovered 20 minutes or until mixture is the consistency of spaghetti sauce.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Stir together the cottage cheese and 1/2 C parmesan cheese. In an un-greased baking pan layer first noodles, 1/3 of remaining meat sauce, 1/3 remaining mozzarella cheese, then 1/3 of cottage cheese. Continue layering in this order with remaining ingredients. Spread reserved meat sauce over top. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese. Then sprinkle with reserved mozzarella cheese.
Bake uncovered 45 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes before cutting.
This is my sister-in-law Laura's famous lasagna! It's wonderful to make the day before, but not bake, then when you are ready to cook it, just get it out 20 minutes before you pop it in the oven.
