Preheat oven to 375.
Cream butter and shortening together until combined (about a minute). Add sugars and mix well. Add vanilla and egg. Mix again.
Add the flour, soda, and salt. Mix JUST until combined. It will look over-floured for a few seconds, but should come together fairly quickly.
Stir in the chocolate chips.
Scoop golf-ball size spoonfuls of dough onto cookie sheet, and bake for 9-11 minutes They should be light-colored and puffed when they come out of the oven, but dry-looking (not shiny or wet). Let cool on the pan for about 2 minutes then transfer to cooling rack.
I LOVE hot chocolate chip cookies so much! I have quite a few recipes I like to use, and recently came across this one from https://everyday-reading.com! (I love her blog and instagram stories!)It makes the perfect cookie. I recently brought these to a party, and they were gone literally minutes after I set them down.
